Headteacher's Welcome
Being entrusted with a child’s education is an enormous privilege and responsibility. Most of our school staff are parents and we know how important the primary years are in setting children on a fulfilling, ambitious and happy course. Primary school is where children begin to discover who they are, what they like doing and what path they might take in the future. We thank parents for their trust in us, and their partnership with us, and we do not take it lightly.
Our latest Ofsted report (July 2023) states that “The headteacher leads with care and compassion. This is reflected in the highly positive comments pupils, parents, carers and staff make. Governors know their statutory duties well. They listen carefully to the needs of their community and stakeholders. Governors effectively support the headteacher in implementing changes for further improvement.”
We believe this is because we invest in our relationship with parents and our community, knowing that it is only working together that we can secure the best outcomes for children. We take time to talk to parents at the beginning and end of days, make time for formal and informal consultations about progress, put on curriculum information meetings and have termly parental consultations about areas of school life.
A village school brings particular advantages to it. We can offer a family-feel and a personalised education. Parents sometimes ask how we manage to teach in mixed-age classes – it is because we do not view children as belonging to a particular year group but we see them as an individual. Ofsted recognised this, “Leaders have established their vision of ‘preparing, sowing, growing’. This is evident within the carefully planned curriculum. Leaders prepare their pupils very well for
their next stages of education and for life in modern day Britain. Leaders have thought carefully about what pupils need as they grow into young adults.”
As well as making time for parents, we believe in listening to children. We want to produce young citizens who will be active and participate in their community and world. They need to know that adults in school are ‘for them’ and will take their views seriously. Pupils in Year 1 to Year 6 belong to a School Council and they take part in regular speaking and listening activities. We treat children with respect and expect them to treat each other in the same way. We expect high standards of behaviour and this means pupils enjoy being at school and behave well.
We welcome visits to the school. Come and spend some time with us, see our school in action and experience for yourself our caring, family atmosphere. As parents, you play an important role in the education of your child. We look forward to enjoying a happy and rewarding partnership with your family.
Warm regards
Mrs Emma Clarke on behalf of the School Community

Experienced Staff
One of the things that make our school special is that we have a high proportion of experienced staff working in our school. Each moment of the school day is a precious opportunity for children to learn and flourish and we believe experienced staff can help children make the most of this. All of our teachers have taught in different kinds of schools before coming to Christ Church CE Primary School and are able to bring this experience to our environment. Our staff see themselves as learners too and are always open to new ideas and ways of working but also have the wisdom to know what helps children develop best. Many of our staff have also had jobs and careers in areas other than education and this broad experience of life helps them to prepare children for a changing world. We see school as a learning environment for all which means we have partnerships with the University Centre, Shrewsbury and Worcester University and regularly welcome Assistant Teachers on placements with us, as they begin their teaching career. Education is a wonderful career and we are excited to share our expertise and learn from them too.
