Arrival, Departure and Transport

Our normal school day is 8.45am to 3.15pm.  Children are asked to arrive from 8.35am when staff open the pedestrian gates.  Parents can then come in and wait with their children on the playground until doors open at 8.40am.  We take the Register at 8.45am.  It is really important that children are on time as we use this ‘Early Morning Time’ to practise vital maths facts, listen to children read and help them with phonics learning and do ‘keep ups’ if there was something children found difficult in learning the day before.  The School Bus and School Transport Taxis arrive in time for Registration.  If children arrive after 8.45am they are marked as ‘L’ on the Register and if they arrive more than 10 minutes late they are marked as ‘U’ which means the session counts as an unauthorised absence.  Unauthorised absences are counted by Shropshire Council’s Education Welfare Officer and a certain number may lead to letters and fines.

Little Acorns and Acorns enter via their ‘back doors’, Holly should enter in the morning via the front ‘Children’s Entrance Door’.  Maple, Willow and Oak should enter by their Classroom Doors.  At the end of the day, Little Acorns are collected from their ‘back door’,  Acorns leave by their Classroom Doors and come round with their teachers and wait by the trim trail for collection.  Holly Class will leave by the Children’s Entrance Door and Maple, Willow and Oak will leave by their Classroom Doors.

For YR-Y2 teachers will watch children walk to their parents/adult collecting.  In Holly, Willow and Oak Class children will develop their independence by going out to their parents/adult collecting when they can see them.  A teacher will always be on the playground to ensure smooth handover.  Children in Willow and Oak Class may walk home if parents have agreed this for their children but please let us know that you have given permission.

For those pupils who take the school taxi or bus service a register is taken in school daily. Pupils are then accompanied to the vehicle by a school adult.

Pupils booked in to After School Club are taken straight to Wrap Around Care by a member of staff.  Our in-house Wrap Around Care takes place in Little Acorns.

Pupils attending other after school clubs will be dismissed by the club leader at the end of the session. Parents are asked to confirm pick up arrangements on club booking letters. Clubs run from 3.15pm to 4.15pm.

It is imperative that parents keep their emergency contact details up to date so that staff and club leaders can keep parents informed of any changes necessary to arrival and departure arrangements.

Please telephone the office and let us know of any changes to your normal departure arrangements, such as if a child is going home with another parent and child for a play date.  Mrs Partridge and Miss Griffiths in the School Office will always ring you to check if there are any doubts over handover at the end of the day.

Departure

Many of our children who live in Cressage, walk to school or are encouraged to bring scooters or bikes.  We strongly encourage this as part of a healthy lifestyle.

For some pupils this is not an option as they live in outlying villages. We would encourage those parents who need to bring their children by car to try to park some distance away and walk the last part to school. This serves two purposes: it frees congestion around the school, making it safer for pupils and it encourages pupils to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

If there is no alternative to bringing your car close to school it is imperative that you park safely and lawfully, avoiding the school gates and neighbours’ driveways, avoiding zigzag yellow lines and keeping access free for deliveries and emergencies.

The school car park, which is small, is strictly for staff and visitors. Parents are only permitted to use the school car park in exceptional circumstances- e.g. if they have been to collect a sick child.

Entering School – Children’s Entrance Door

School staff, usually the Headteacher will be at the door each morning to greet pupils and parents.

Children should come in on their own and school staff will help them if they have lots of bags or feel nervous.
