School Performance Tables

School Performance Tables are published by the Secretary of State on the Department for Education’s website, which can be found here.  They also give information about progress scores.  However as the 2017 cohort of 5 children was too small for statistical comparison purposes they are not available for that year.

Swimming

Schools are also required to report on their swimming results.  All children swim for a term every year in KS2 (four years of swimming provision) and in 2017/18 69% (9 out of our 13) Year 6 children could swim 25 metres confidently and meet the other requirements of the Y6 curriculum.  This increased to 88% (7 out of 8 children) in 2018/19. Unfortunately, due to Covid our swimming lessons were cancelled in Summer 2020 and 2021.  Our Y4-Y6 children have thankfully been accessing swimming lessons at William Brookes again in September and October 2021.  Our Y6s had missed two years of school swimming so by the end of these sessions, 8 out of 18 (44%) could swim 25 metres.  We are prioritising swimming catch up for the other year groups who have missed swimming opportunities and have swimming sessions booked for 22-23 academic year.  A copy of our swimming policy is available Swimming Policy Spr 22-Spr 25

Opening Hours

Our playground gates open at 8.35am when parents are welcome to come in and supervise children before doors open at 8.40am.  The Register is taken at 8.45am and arrivals after then are marked late.  The day finishes at 3.15pm which means that school is open for 32.5 hours per week (not including after school activities).

School Curriculum

Our whole school curriculum is made up of the national curriculum, laid down by the Department of Education (DfE), and our local school curriculum which we have designed and planned for based on what we believe our pupils need to develop and grow. Our school curriculum also includes Religious Education and we were an early adopter of the new PSHE curriculum, (personal, social, citizenship and health education which also includes relationship education).  Our curriculum has been carefully planned to ensure children have the knowledge and skills to ensure they can flourish in modern Britain.  We have detailed curriculum grids for each class each term to ensure parents know what children are learning.  You can read the curriculum grids and find out lots more on our main curriculum page including subject coverage charts here: https://christchurchcressage.co.uk/learning/curriculumprovision2020/

You can also read our Teaching And Learning Policy Spr 22-25 which gives information about the implementation of our curriculum and how we monitor its impact.

Phonics and Reading

We use Bug Club Phonics as our main phonics programme (the way we teach children to read).  We look forward to sharing the importance of phonics with parents at a special meeting every September for Acorns parents.  You can find our phonics page here and our reading page here.

Behaviour Policy

Safeguarding Policy

Safeguarding permeates every aspect of our School life and many of our school policies make reference to safeguarding and the Keeping Children Safe in Education documents and principles which we follow in all our practice.  You can find more information and some important links on the Safeguarding page at the top of the menu.

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child.

Click Schools Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy 2023 for a copy of our policy or go to our policies and procedures page.  If you would like more information about Safeguarding generally then please click here to go to the NSPCC website.  You can always contact their helpline on tel: 0808 800 5000 for advice or support from trained counsellors or if you have a concern about a child.  If you feel a child is in immediate danger, please always dial 999.

Teaching children to be safe online is a key priority for us and e-safety is part of our Computing curriculum, as well as permeates our use of IT in all areas.  We have put on an NSPCC Workshop for Parents on Online Harm and Keeping Safe in October 2022 but this area needs ongoing work and we will continue to do all we can to keep our children safe online.  This area is a Key Priority in our 2023-24 School Development Plan.
